I never asked him, but I think he came up with it independently. Or perhaps he heard it and then later incorporated it subconsciously.

What is this about?

i've been trying to think of what i could go by here, since 'supergirl' doesn't really mean much to anyone. i wanted something familiar, something from home still, you know? so i thought about flamebird. i've used the name before, briefly, and my sister was host to the flamebird before she died

but you know the story. nightwing and flamebird are partners. more than, in many cases. if you didn't know, that would be one thing. but since you do, i'll find something else

There's a brief impulse to offer to change his codename. Flamebird means something to her. Both due to her dead culture and a dead sibling. Nightwing is something Dick Grayson came up with God only knows how, and something he more or less stole when he made off with that costume and hid it away.

But it's still his. The last connection he has with Dick. One he's not willing to give up. At least not yet.]

If you want to use it, then use it. That name clearly means something to you.
