[ jason is Something and it's really best to leave it at that. damian finally just waves the water back down and orders a strudel, since he's. resigning himself to this. intent on listening in. ]

[ Strudel. He's actually ordering food. Noctis blinks once, honestly expecting Damian to leave but here he is committing to stay for at least that long. ]

Ah. Makes sense, I guess... I wear one back home to help with my grip and it has to be pretty tough too. It's a lot more stylish than that one but I figure you'll say that doesn't matter and that no one ever saved anybody by looking good.

[ He should just leave but he just paid for food and he's apparently going to be doing incongnito missions in a video game with this guy -- god, is this his life now? This is his life. He almost misses being punched in the head by people ten times stronger than him. ]

The city I'm from isn't as big as this, that's for sure. Skyscrapers and a pretty big population, maybe, but definitely not as many layers. Was kinda' crazy seeing all the flying cars and hearing about space travel, too... Makes me want to head up there. See it all myself.

Most all of them. [ ... ] You could say I was raised in an animal sanctuary. [ Sure. ]

[ Suddenly Noctis sits forward, only seeming to realize a second later how lame and over-eager that seems.

Weird... I mean I guess that doesn't sound bad; I always wanted a lot of animals but I wasn't allowed. [ Growing up around them sounds awesome... ]

But before I lived with him I lived with my grandfather. [ in like, six different secret bases. ] There were a pair of Bali tigers I was fond of. They were the last of their kind - people had driven them to extinction in their natural habitat.

When he got home, he was going to snap the new Blue Beetle in two for what he'd done to the sanctuary. Buddy and Vixen must be devastated. To lose the Tasmianian Tiger had been bad, but - all of them? With their powers?

He sombers a little. ]

They weren't particularly tame. But they tolerated attention.

... well that sounds familiar... [ partly under his breath, but he's not exactly working hard to not be heard here. ]

Most of the animals from Earth seem pretty different compared to what I'm used to. Means I'm learning not to assume, anyway, since people don't know what I'm talking about half the time. [ Which... isn't great, but it's not anyone else's fault. ]

You must miss them.

[ Well. Damian goes quiet at that. Everything feels like a sore spot these days, like he's just a giant, gaping emotional wound that can't figure out how to heal. ]
