[That finally gets Kate to smile a little, grabbing one of the throw pillows to swat him gently.]

[ he huffs out a sound that might be a laugh, allowing the swat. he's trying very hard not to show Real Emotion here, it's not really working. ]

If you actually want to help, you're going to need to start cooking until this heals properly.

[That was almost a laugh, and so Kate doubles down on the teasing. It's a better strategy than dwelling too hard on the "help" part of that statement.]

Wow, a "get in the kitchen" from you? Gross, Damian.

[Kate bursts out laughing. It's maybe the first time she's relaxed enough to in days.]

Wow, what a threat. How will I possibly go on?

You'll just need to get on my level, Bishop.

[ it does feel good to hear her laugh, though. thank god. ]

[She nudges him with the pillow this time, still smiling.]

I've always been on your level.

[ he'll!! allow it! partly because he's also just too damn tired to move right now. ] Comparable, but not quite.

I've given you plenty of compliments. You're not mediocre, Kate. I don't say that lightly.

[ okay maybe not plenty, but. ]

[Kate rolls her eyes at that.]

You can best me in archery. I was trained by the world's greatest archers. [ look. a real compliment. ] That might mean you're better than the best.

Oh, that was almost a compliment. I'd count it if I didn't have to scold you to get it.
